“Recognizing that an informed community is our greatest asset, the FBI Citizens’ Academy program is by far one of the most beneficial community outreach endeavors we employ. The purpose of the FBI Citizens’ Academy is to foster greater understanding of the FBI’s mission among business, civic, and other influential leaders by enhancing communication between the FBI and those we serve in the San Diego community. The Academy provides attendees with an “inside look” at FBI operations, investigations, legal issues, undercover procedures, and firearms use. Participants learn the laws, policies, and guidelines the FBI must follow, and how these rules preserve the rights of the individual while facilitating the effective investigation of criminal activity.”
“After participating in the Academy we encourage our graduates to stay engaged by joining the San Diego FBI Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association. Not only does the Alumni Association provide a venue for graduates to remain abreast of the current issues and challenges the intelligence and law enforcement communities face, but it allows for our graduates to be force multipliers and ‘Ambassadors of the FBI’ within our region.”
The Citizens’ Academy wished April farewell, as she departed the FBI. In honor of her many years of service to the Citizens’ Academy, the Alumni Association Board granted April lifetime membership to the Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association and we look forward to having her join us for many events in the future. April’s new position is External Liaison Officer for the United States Navy, Commander, Navy Region Southwest. The Alumni Association wishes April the best in her new endeavor.
The Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association also wants to recognize and re-introduce Erin MacKinnon, San Diego’s FBI Community Outreach Specialist. Among Erin’s many other responsibilities, she now has the added responsibility of overseeing the Citizens’ Academy program.
